Figs from Thistles

Figs from Thistles is an ongoing body of work made in the Texas landscape in spring as it turns from its dormant winter state into one graced with wildflowers. The title is taken from a book of poetry by Edna St. Vincent Millay, my late grandmother’s favorite poet. The book includes poems suggesting the beauty of a shifting landscape and the joy of things that come to fruition in spite of circumstances.  This project began in 2013 when Texas was experiencing one of its most extreme droughts in history.
